Sisters, Here's that word again, "Godfidence." My GG Michelle (God's Girl) gave us this word as she spoke to us about the significance of prayer in our lives. If you have not read it yet I encourage you to read it prior to doing the work, as it is a precursor to the work. Click here to read Michelle’s word. When I read the word, I had a little "Lean wit it, Rock wit it" moment in my spirit. GG Michelle gives the definition of Godfidence as, Faith + Confidence. You see, confidence is having the ability to stand when everyone tells you to sit, but you stand anyway because you believe in you. Oh, but having Godfidence is the ability to stand when you don't believe in you, but you trust GOD! You know that you know that you know that you're having a footprints moment. Those footprints in the sand don't belong to you, they belong to God, because he is carrying you. Whew...Godfidence!
Now let's do the work...Our scripture for the week comes from 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18. It simply says, Make your life a prayer. And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God's perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.
Let me share with you...
This may come as a shock to some, but I love Hip-Hop music! It is in my top three favorite genres of music. I have two artists that I believe can slay anyone in a wrap battle and that is DMX and Eminem (I said what I said lol). As many of you know DMX passed away last week. As with many artists his passing was felt all around the world, but what I found to be different about peoples’ response to DMX's passing was not only how his music affected all that loved him, but how his bold in your face love for God and Prayer life spoke to the people. What I saw on social media were not posts of the many songs off of one of his eight albums, but the countless times he prayed after one of his concerts to thousands, or an Instagram post where he's just sitting on a bench, him, the Word and God. He prayed in spite of himself. He prayed through his obvious flaws and the not so obvious. Prayer was his life.
How do we make our lives a prayer? - Well, first let’s re-examine what prayer is. Simply put, it is interacting with God. It is a conversation with God, it is a song that you sing in your spirit or out loud that attaches you to Him and causes you to worship. It is a spontaneous petition for His help, or a moment of gratefulness for ALL He has done. It is asking questions, as well as seeking clarity. It is sitting in a quiet place and surrendering all that you think you know. It is being authentic with God, after all He knew you before you knew yourself! (Jeremiah 1:1). It is knowing that your words are not being judged, only heard. Sisters, sometimes it's just breathing and knowing that God hears your heart with every breath that you take. So, with this knowledge sisters, understand that making your life a prayer is making a decision to interact with God daily.
In the midst of everything, give thanks - Most would think that this is self-explanatory, but it is easier said than done. Let’s just be real. When your spouse is getting on your last nerve, you are not pausing to say, Thank you God for the love of my life! When you're on your way to work and someone almost hits your car, you know the one on the cell phone, you're not exactly thanking God for that moment. So how do we always give thanks in the midst of everything? Be deliberate. Don't wait for moments to be thankful for. Be thankful for every moment! Make it a habit to say, Thank YOU! And let’s not limit our Thank You’s. to God. Thank your best friend for always being there. Thank the person that let you pass them on the road or in the store even if they don't hear you. Give yourself a pat on the back for your ability to say the course. But also thank God for those experiences you feel you could've done without. The ones that seem to show up even before you've gotten out of the other horrible one you were in. When you're grateful for the people that God has put in your path you honor Him. Be thankful for everything! Without it you wouldn't be the most fabulous, remarkable, astonishing, taking NO PRISONERS sister that you are! As the scripture says: "for this is God's perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus."
